Who should own your domain and why it matters
Your domain is the address of the business. It should sit in an account you control.
Own the registrar login
The company — not the agency, not a freelancer’s personal email — should own the registrar account. That way renewals, DNS, and transfers are never held hostage if a relationship ends.
What partners should hold instead
A good partner can manage DNS and hosting with delegated access, without taking the keys. They use modern tools and advanced code on infrastructure you can still walk away with.
Before you sign
Ask who pays renewals, whose name is on the WHOIS/account, and how a handover works. Clarity here prevents the most avoidable post-project panic.
