Custom software vs a website
A website persuades and informs. Custom software runs part of how the business works day to day.
Different jobs
A marketing site presents the company, captures leads, and builds trust. Custom software handles workflows — bookings, inventories, portals, approvals, internal tools — often with logins and data that must stay correct.
When you need both
Many businesses need a sharp public site and a quieter system behind it. The site can stay light while the product carries the heavy logic. Trying to force both into a generic page builder usually ends in workarounds.
Modern tools and advanced code let a public face and an operations tool share brand and data without pretending they are the same product.
How to decide
If visitors mainly need to understand you and get in touch, start with a website. If staff or customers need to complete repeating tasks inside a system, you are in software territory — even if it lives at a URL.
